Creative Expression Online Art Classes
In these times of change, in as much as they have enormous challenges and require us to dig deep to find resilience for ourselves and support for others, we can also find, the magic in the moment. Out of adversity can come great courage and our strongest abilities to tap into our most resourceful and creative selves. Let’s create together and allow our imagination to soar to those parts we may not have been able to reach, with our usual highly busy schedules, in the never ending cycle of our every day usual living.
I am often taken back to the story of the Little Princess, which captured my imagination and somehow has stayed with me through my life. The story of a little girl, living in poverty and dealing with adversity and how she was able to go into her imagination, to create something magical for herself. For me, it has been those childhood stories, that have stayed with me and have been strong metaphors, of the magic of life.
I am hoping you will join us, for a class with a difference. You will be in your home and at the same time expanding your imagination, to be wherever your imagination leads you. You will be supported through a process that taps into your imagination, grows your creative muscle, allows for personal self development, or is just the sheer enjoyment of being creative. We will be following the same format of drawing after the visualisation and meditation and then playing with ideas and sharing the imagery with the group.
I will be using “zoom” and would request that you download the free version. Before the class, I will send a link to those who have registered.
Newtown’s Creative Expression Art Classes, aims to create a space, where like-minded people can come together in creativity and fun, whilst learning, healing and bonding with each other.
Held in the Crypt, at St. Joseph’s Presbytery (on hold for the time being), on a Saturday, we have a lovely big space for you to feel free and safe to explore yourself through drawing, knowing there are no boundaries, other than your own imagination. You will have the chance to express yourself as you wish without judgment, as this class creates a safe space for all who come, to heal, grow and learn about themselves.
No experience is required for this class and all are welcome. Whether we see ourselves as artistically inclined or not, we learn not to judge our drawings and realize the importance of the enjoyment of the process and what the completion thereof, brings for us.
This class will begin with a lead meditation for about 5 minutes. In this meditation, we are noticing body sensations and learning to use tools which can be of assistance to us, in our every day lives. In time, we will be able to link our emotions, with our sensations.
In the visualisation, you are also being lead into your imaginative world, where you can access images and create metaphors which you will then bring into your drawing and writing, using a large almost life size piece of paper. I encourage you to use crayons, which will give you the chance to express yourself freely.
Some participants feel that they want to extend their drawing into another one and continue it through onto a second sheet of paper. The idea is to carry the original drawing through, allowing it to transform freely.
I am now including creative writing in the process. You will be writing and pulling out parts, bringing them into poetry, if that is what resonates for you. The two processes will naturally work together.
It is then time to share, honour and also go into the meaning for each participant. This part of the session is a rich process for everyone as participants prompt eachother expanding and amplifying the imagination, using the drawing. The artist, during this time is listening and thinking what resonates for him/her and after the sharing has the chance to communicate what has been happening for him/her. Very often something really pivotal has shown itself and the responses are very individual.
If you have a desire to understand yourself better and develop your creative abilities as well, this class may be for you.

“ Debra’s group is a wonderful space to explore and reignite our own internal creativity. In a non-judgemental setting the atmosphere of ‘anything goes’ really encourages a playful and non-precious approach. In fact often the most engaging works are those from people who haven’t done anything for years. I’m finding regular attendance at the group is really helping me get back in touch with my own creative expression. Many thanks to Debra for creating such a warm and nurturing space. ”
